About the Firm

In 1989, Thomas F. Gardner, a registered engineer and a member of the Louisiana Bar with seven years of construction litigation experience, founded a law firm to serve the highly complex and technical needs of the construction industry.  What was apparent in 1989 is still true today, the legal representation needs of the construction industry simply did not align with the traditional services provided by most law firms.  Unlike most law firms, Gardner & Kewley addressed the needs of designers, insurers, contractors, developers, owners and sureties by rendering flexible legal services combined with state of the art customized technology.

In responding to the needs of its core construction clients, Gardner & Kewley’s focus area expanded into other aspects of the commercial arena, including banking relations, lender-liability, landlord-tenant, management, copyright, commerce, officers and directors responsibility, development, mineral law, property rights, intellectual property, insurance, estate planning and administration, partnership law, corporate law, business interruption and business sales.  While serving the construction industry, Gardner & Kewley continued to represent its health, disability and life insurance company clients under both state law and ERISA.

Gardner & Kewley offers representation on affirmative claims and as defense counsel.  Gardner & Kewley routinely handles professional liability, breach of contract, extended overhead, defective work, liens, Unfair Trade Practices Act and third-party beneficiary claims.  Gardner & Kewley also represents developers, architects, engineers and contractors in drafting agreements, including advice on risk management and insurance issues.

By focusing on recruiting only technically proficient attorneys and by conducting in-house training programs, Gardner & Kewley provides its clients with quality and consistent service at a reasonable competitive cost.  By combining this focused approach to construction law with customized technology, Gardner & Kewley has achieved a level of service to our clients that is unparalleled in this community.
